The Wisconsin Sleep program opened in October 2007 through the collaborative efforts of the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation, Inc. (UWMF), and Meriter Hospital, Inc. (Meriter). This innovative program combines the strength of experienced faculty physicians of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and the latest technology to create a truly comprehensive range of patient services.
The Wisconsin Sleep program is led by medical director Ruth Benca, MD, PhD. It includes a clinic and a laboratory:
- Clinic: The Wisconsin Sleep clinic offers patients the opportunity to meet with physicians, or other non-physician providers, who specialize in sleep medicine. Clinic appointments may discuss sleep problems, review test results or recommend treatment. The clinic is run by UW Medical Foundation, which supports the primary and specialty clinical activities of the faculty physicians of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
- Laboratory: The Wisconsin Sleep, Inc. laboratory is an independent diagnostic testing facility operated as a joint venture of UW Medical Foundation and Meriter. The laboratory provides a range of sleep testing through 16 private sleep study suites.
